Christmas Season

We decorated the christmas tree and house last weekend. When the kids are this 8 and 5 it is great time as the excitment is building each day until santa comes. basketball started this week and i am helping coach both teams. Nash is really grabbing at things now and talking all the time. He is still pretty bald but starting to get some hair here and there.

Spencer scored his first points during the first game - however they were for the other team and he was the high point man for the other team as the score was 11-3.
Hadden played a game right after and drove to the bucket with nice 4 foot shot in the middle of the lane. they won 19-4.

The elf has appeared on the scene this year: so far he has woke up on Nash's crib, under the christmas tree looking up at the lights, he drew on a picture of hadden and spencer, and this morning he was wrapped up in toliet paper sitting on the back of the toliet... lots of laughs out of the kids for sure...

Thanksgiving 2011

The family loaded up for our 2nd road trip with Nash since he has been born. He had a great trip down to b'ham. He is really starting to grab at things. When you feed him you have to hold his hand back or he will try and swat at the spoon. it is making us remember that the time is coming soon when he will start throwing his cup down time and time again because he thinks it is funny. both hadden and spencer already think it is funny to see him grab our food if he is sitting with us when we are trying to eat dinner.

Birmingham was a great Thanksgiving. My mom had been in the hospital with pneumonia since November 13th - she was able to come home November 21 right in time for thanksgiving. i know she was not as active as she would like but both hadden and spencer enjoyed playing cards with her and she got to roll around with Nash some and he gave her lots of smiles. Spencers favorite part of the trip was playing board games with Nini and haddens favorite thing was frying turkeys with papa me and paul. we had all the normal things - pretzel salad, mash potato's, sweet potato's - everyone's favorites.. i was in charge of the gravy this year since mom was not feeling great... uhhh.. needed a little work.. so dad tried the next night and added about 2lbs of salt too.. needless to say it didn't make it through the night....Spencer and hadden got to show papa their dribbling skills with one of the balls going off the cliff near the side of the driveway... that was an adventure to find but they did.....carrie and i got to catch up with jena and paul and the twins...they are both getting big and love to hang out with their cousins....lots of questions....each got to sleep a night at their cousins house with spencer sleeping in the same room as cason and hadden sleeping in the same room as kiley.

Carrie's family went to the beach this year for thanksgiving - this is the first year the kids were off for the whole week of thanksgiving from school... with Nash being so young we decided to wait until next year to attempt a few days at the beach before Thanksgiving...

Oct / November

Soccer has wrapped up for the fall. I am proud of both hadden and spencer. spencer broke his record for goals with 7 goals in his last game. he averaged around 3 goals a game. Hadden's team beat the 2nd best team in the league around 10-2. He had 3 or 4 goals and his game high was 8 goals.

we are starting basketball and i am helping coach both teams but not the head coach. Nash is really starting to talk/babble to us and started spitting. he is getting big and loves for you to talk to him.

School is going great for both kids. hadden continues to love to read while spencer is blowing through all his sight words and even has made it through all the 2nd grade words....it is nice to see them both do well in school.

Carrie and i went to a wedding a few weeks ago - our first night out since having Nash. it was fun and in downtown nashville in a great little spot with good food and catching up with some friends of carrie's we don't have a chance to see very often.

it has been a long time since my last post-- i need to do better.

Soccer / Weekend

Nash has started to sleep through the night.....he is laughing more and more. today i was looking at a picture and my co-worker said is that Nash? i said no that is hadden....i had an old picutre of hadden at my desk and the 2 of them looked very similar..she said i would have thought it was the same picture. but than carrie showed me one today of spencer and it is pretty close too.... i think you will be able to tell they are all brothers. Saturday was history in the making on the soccer field. Hadden had 8 goals at the 9:00 game.. followed by Spencer scoring 4 goals at the 10 game. Home after that to watch bama whip the hogs and then grilled out steaks/chicken. fall weather is upon us now and i see some chilli in our future weekends.

Halloween......

This time of year the kids begin to get Halloween magazines... this becomes a battle between hadden and spencer on who gets to look at which magazine or as they both call them .. masagenes....also creates a debate and decisions on how who am i going to dress up this year... it normally changes several times from august to September... lots of what they both think about is Halloween. spencer and hadden want me to take them to the haunted woods. the fact that spencer still sleeps under the sheet... i said we may need to wait another couple years....while getting called on this week in school spencer teacher was asking them to say what they would draw starting with certain letters... spencers to answers:
B - Butcher Knife
V - Violence.
now he claims the teacher laughed but i am not so sure. Nash has started sleeping though the night this week. he is 11 weeks old today. he is beginning to try to talk and chatter and smiles and laughs at you when you are talking to him. he is still pretty bald.. blue eyes so far...

School, Soccer

Hadden and spencer are both doing well in school. The first progress reports came out with great reviews. Yesterday Hadden came home from school and told me that 3 girls told him they liked him. i asked him what he said and he said " i ran away" spencer than chimed in that a girl in his class tried to kiss him on the playground yesterday and he ran too. Funny stuff. The soccer season has started again and i am coaching spencers team and helping with Hadden's team. Spencer in his 2nd game scored 4 goals in a losing effort. Nash is doing well. he is 10 weeks now and is battling with reflux. Carrie is doing good and is great with helping the boys with homework and keeping nash on a schedule. A couple more weeks until she goes back to work. i am taking off the first 3 weeks tuesday/thursday and then carrie's mom will keep nash through the end of December. this is great news so that daycare is delayed a little longer.... soccer practice today, then a birthday party this afternoon....

First Trip - Bham

Went to b'ham last weekend to visit my parents and sister for the first time since nash was born. the drive down to b'ham - spencer and hadden both said-- is he always going to scream the whole time in the car? but they both had there ipod touch's so it was not a big deal for them. Carrie was stressed out and her nerves were shot by the time we arrived. the older boys planted some trees with papa and both had cason and kiley to play with and follow them around while they were there. everyone had a good time and the weekend went fast. spencer played cards with nini but he quit when she won ever game ( come on grandma ) .........soccer is going well .. i am coaching spencers team and helping with haddens team. they both seem to enjoy it.. spencer always says - i am so hot...... hadden's birthday is in the morning.. we plan on taking a few of his friends to play laser tag and get ice cream saturday afternoon.

Spencer 1st day of school

Carrie took him to school. he was fired up. he told her on the way that he already saw the not she put in his lunch box which said " i love you spence, mom" he told her that if got lonely at school today he could look at the note and be happy. he brought the note home and was thinking he could put it in his room. quote from school from spencer. this was the best day ever. he road the bus home today and told me: i rode with 2 girls and they tried to kiss me. so do you believe a 5 year or what... the girl that tried to kiss him is a neighbor of mine and i know the dad pretty well. i texted him and she said no -- spencer tried to kiss me.. a pinky swear later and the first grader caved and said i tried to kiss spencer.....the dad has told me to have fun with your 3 boys while i go through this for the next 10 years....both kids homework is done for the night.......weekend soccer practices here we come....

Nash - Hiccups 2011

Can you say Hiccups – I had completely forgot about the little enemy for babies. It seems like right when you are trying to put them to be or down for a nap.. BAMM..they happen. And they do not go away in babies like they do in adults – you know – swallow your breath, eat a teaspoon of sugar, hold your breath… at least I can try to do things to get them to stop but a 5 week old baby – no chance...my current solution is to walk laps around Nash’s room while holding him until they stop where than he hopefully is almost to sleep. Nash is 5 weeks old and doing great. I would guess he is about 12lbs right now give or take a pound. He is smiling at the boys and hadden and spencer love helping with the bath and trying to get him to smile at them. uh oh… sounds like he is screaming right now. He should be sleeping….

School Started today

School started today – Thursday Aug 11 – spencer does not start until next week. Hadden had a ½ day today and then full day on Friday…..another summer has come and gone. His only comment - we did not have PE today....

Canoing with the boys and a Lake day

since we didn't go on family vacation this year carrie and i decided to do a few things around Nashville...
1. The first was a trip to the Buffalo River for a 10 mile, 5.5 hour canoe trip. Carrie opted to stay with Nash while i took the 2 boys. it was a great trip. weather was hot, man were our butts sore, next time i will take a game day seat cushion...highlight was the rope swing/cliff to jump off - about 15-20 feet or so... the kids both asked a thousand times when they were going to be to the rope swing - it was at mile 9 of a 10 mile trip.... they had fun, the water was super clear and we saw lots of fish. we went with Chris, Andrew and Brady - everyone had a good time with no flips of the boats - however getting stuck on logs was a common... i did have to bail the kids into the water and have chris catch them down stream… this is a trip where having at least 1 other dad is key.
2. Lake Trip to Percy Priest Lake. This was a last minute trip for sure. Seth brought his son – Ashton and Hadden wanted to invite creed so it was the 4 kids and 2 adults. We rented a pontoon that had a latter to a top deck to jump off and a slide going off the top. We pulled the kids behind the boat with a tube and got to try to throw them off like our dad’s use to do with us.. but with a 90 power engine – not the easiest thing to do but we figured it out (slack in the rope and then rip the tube out of their hands) - no injuries resulted from the day. the highlight was probably tubing and jumping off the cliffs…it was a fun day.

school starting

School starts this week for both hadden and spencer. Hadden will be going to 2nd grade and will have the same teacher he had last year - Mrs Rainbolt. he really did well with her last year and she was moving up to 2nd grade and were given the option to have her for a 2nd year. Spencer will start Kindergarden and think he will have Mrs Meyers - who hadden had for first grade and we both really liked her as well... they are both excited to start school and Monday night is the ice cream social to see what other kids are in there classes.

summer coming to an end

Hadden and Spencer have had a busy summer. Hadden went to SAC which is at the elem school nearby - they have games, art, labs, field trips (bowling, zoo, swimming every Thursday) - he did this on the days Carrie worked which were tues/thursday. these same days Spencer would go to his school where they had different theme weeks. one week that was probably his favorite was carnival week - they would win tickets and then at the end of the day get to pick prize based on the number of tickets they had.

Hadden also enjoyed a week at camp where some of his favorite things to do included. hiking, zip lining into the lake, shooting the Beebe gun, climbing the 40 foot climbing wall (i didn't make it to the top), playing sports, dodge ball etc... sounds like a kids dream week. next year Spencer will get to go. while hadden was doing that i had a week to spend with Nash and Spencer. Spencer and i went to the park and he road his bike around the 1 mile loop while i ran and then he would play for a bit until he was hungry and then we would go to lunch... we did this 2 of the days during the week and he brought his buddy Sam both days...it was fun to spend some one on one time with Spencer.

1.. some random things Said this week - hey look guys a rainbow.... spencer - yeah - god is shooting it down - it is his way of saying there will not be another flood....

2. greg to carrie - i can't believe you have not seen JFK. Hadden - who is jfk - john kennedy - our president who was killed.... spencer -- yeah.. he was shot in the head and killed during a parade. i learned it in school....

baby is crying.. will continue this later...

Things kids say

Since Nash has been born Spencer and Hadden have had some pretty funny moments.

1. Hadden on Monday saw carrie breastfeeding for the first time with Nash. He ran over and started to whispering to Spencer and they both ran over and said -

S/H --what are you doing?
C " Nash is eating"
H/S - what is he eating ?
C --Milk ---
H/S --How does the milk get there?....

Spencer - He is eating off your boob...
S 0 did i do that when i was a baby -
Carrie - yes ,
spencer --uhhh gross....

Hadden - holding him Monday morning when he has a big poop --- " i don't think i want to hold Nash anymore today.

Nash Edward Meyer - July 8 1:55 PM

Today i am going to recap the day that Nash was born. It started with Carrie and I waking up at 3:30 or so to get to the hospital by 4:30 so that carrie could get induced.
1. 5:00 - carrie is hooked up to all the IV's and the drug to start the contractions starts.
2. 5:15 - flo and i head to mcdonalds to grab a little breakfast and coffee before the big day gets going to fast.
3. 5:45 - we are back to the hospital and carrie is doing well - laying in bed having some ice chips.
4. 6:15 - this is when the excitement begins - she gets up to use the bathroom and when she comes back the nurse plug her back in and we can tell something is not right.
5. 6:16 - 6:20 or so ---nurse is moving carrie to side to side and calls in 2nd nurse and the dr. they are in there quick. the dr then calls and says get the ER ready for an emergency C- section. it has gone from 1 nurse to 8 or so folks in the room and i am scared and not sure what is going on.
6. 6:25 - the baby's heart had decelearted so they back off the potosum (contaction Medicine - from 6 to 0) - carrie and the baby are doing okay. The Dr and Nurse say to be prepared for all day birth.
7. 6:30 - 9:30 - i do lots of walking, carrie sister Ashley arrives. things are progressing slowly - she is back on the contraction medecine. nothing is happening quickly.
8. 10:30 0r so - go to break the water and the baby has moved up to high -- to dangerous to break the water. the waiting game continues. Carrie is doing well. The baby likes it when she is on her left side in the bed - when she moves to her right side the baby's heart rate falls. she stays on her left side the rest of the labor.
9. 11:00 - grab jason's deli for lunch with 5 guys fries for a side.
10. 12:00 or so - they nurse comes into check carrie and says you are dialated to a 6 but " uh... i think i feel the baby's hand on his head" i had not heard this from the other 2 times carrie gave birth. the nervous part of me says this cannot be good.
11. 12:30 or so - the Dr comes in and says there are 3 options. because the baby's hand is on the head if they break the water the hand could fall out and an emergency C-section would need to occur, two - the hand is moved and everything proceeds as normal, 3 - we wait --- at this point i turn white as a sheet and need to walk so i proceed to the hallway to walk while the water is being broke. Needless to say it is extemely good news that i never decided to major in medecine as i do not have what it takes to be in the hospital very much.
12. 12:35 - the water breaks - everything is good.
13. 12:35 - 1:30 - carrie is having lots of contractions - big ones. she is comfortable but starting to feels some pressure.
14. 1:40 - she calls the nurse - she is now dialated to 10 - Nash is ready to come.
15. 1:50 - 1:52 - she starts pushing - i can sense from the dr's a sense of urgency.... they are not letting her have any breaks between pushes.
16. 1:55 - the 3rd of 4th big push and Nash is hear. He had is hand between the cord and his neck and the cord was wrapped around his neck. the dr indicated we had a min or 2 more before a C-section would have happened.

Nash- right at 9 hours of labor and daddy was a nervous wreck but it was so great to see how great carrie did. She did great and Nash was healthy baby boy. 7 lbs, 15 oucnes - 19.5 inches long and all the tests came out great. He passed his hearing test on Saturday morning.

Our friend Sarah was the nurse on the baby floor both Friday and Saturday night so she helped take care of Nash which was great. We left the hospital by 11:00 on Sunday July 10 to come home. Hadden and spencer stayed with Carries parents - they came to visit there brother on friday and held him and gave him hugs / kisses before heading to Carrie's parents. they had a great time there hunting and playing outside, going to the creek to swim running around.

June is almost gone

Summer is in full swing. The kids have had a great summer so far.
1. a week of basketball camp followed by swimming and playing at Devins house. Spencer likes basketball and this was his first experience with a camp.
2. a week off then a week of soccer camp. about 3 hours a day with devin, john, sam -- hadden and spencer had a great time. it was just what we needed for hadden to decide on his own ( with Devin's help maybe) to play soccer this year instead of flag football.. (thank you)....
3. had a week off and last week hadden went to a week of sports camp at thompsons station church.. everyone got some kind of award -good sport, good story teller, etc.. hadden got mr baseketball.. he is really enjoying getting outside and playing.
4. spencer had a game week last week at school - the carnvial.. so they won tickets each day and than got to pick out a prize to bring home.. yeah.. one more thing to throw away...

Spencer unlike hadden had not shown an interst in riding his bike without training wheels for a while. he loved riding his scooter though.. after some prodding from hadden he decided last week to give it a go and after 1 good fall it is his new favorite thing to do. everyday he when we get home from school he wants his pair of socks so he can put on his tennis shoes and go ride his bike...

hadden likes to shoot his bebe gun-- we went on a rabbit hunt out in the field near where we live..... it was pretty overgrown... spencer and hadden were able to shoot at a lot of birds but did not see any rabbits... on the walk back home i asked hadden if he had fun " No.. we didn't shoot anything".... mmmmmm

Carrie is almost due. the date of july 8th has been set for the day we get to meet our new son....I took care of shuttting down the factory last week..recovery was not bad at all.....

4th of july weekend is ahead with some swimming, pig/goat barbeques on the horizon.. until next time

Spring to Summer

I always intend to write more on here and i look back and see that it has been since Feb since my last post. time flies....

1. Hadden's basketball team -7 and 8 year olds got 3rd place out of 18 teams in there little division. all the kids improved greatly and it was a fun season to coach. the game we lost in the semi's was tough.. lost by a bucket or so.

2. things kids say continue to crack us up:
Hadden -what happens if you don't go to heaven - spencer ---you go to the fiery pit.
hadden - spring of 2011 - getting caught in a few lies - spencer - though shall not bare false witness.

Spencer - who is that with big mike (pat's brother) - that is his ex wife but they still get along---spencer - did they not keep their marriage vows? before carrie can respond ---thou shall not commit adultery....

3. Spencer turns 5 March 30. He has several of his buddies to goofballs to play and have a good time. His theme is a soccer party. He is also in the middle of playing soccer and has had a great season. he scores in nearly every game and the last game scores 4 goals.. a good season to say the least.

A trip to the beach and Birmingham mixed in here as well. everyone is going good there.. the kids enjoy the Birmingham trips seeing everyone and playing with cason and kiley..

4. Hadden is playing on the 7-8 year old machine pitch baseball league. is has played all season at 3rd base and is quite the little player with a great arm. his team has finished the regular seasons 10-2 with several good teams. Tournaments start this week and next week.

hadden has finsihed first grade and excelled in school. he really likes to write and read. he is through his 2nd harry potter book and in the middle of his 3rd book.

spencer has had a good year in school and is now reading to carrie and i at night. we are curious how kindergarden will be because he can read pretty well and is doing small math. so we will see.

Carrie is good... 8 months pregnant and we are still trying to decide on a name for the baby... Flynn, Beckett, nash and Thatcher are the finalists...flynn has been eliminated and it looked like nash was in the lead but rounding the last corner it appears he broke his leg... now it is thatcher and Beckett... with thatcher as a 5-4 favorite and Beckett as 50-1 long shot.. we will see...

Summer is here.... more over the next few days.. unless my next post is 3 months from now which is the norm....

Things Kids say

Carrie took Spencer to McDonalds last week and after he ate he was playing in the playground --- he met someone there that was in his school and was playing with her when out of the blue starts saying " my dad burps and farts all the time.. all day long" if you know spencer you know he does not have a quiet voice but a loud meyer voice..... needless to say carrie was about as red as a fire engine and told spencer no more bathroom words in public.

Hadden came home with a sheet from school that said if i had a 100 i would: spend it on a eggrsive dog. so if someone tried to break in my house they are going to become barbeque - you turn over the page and he has a picture with a quote : chew him up.

the 7-8 year old heat - haddens team are having a good season. they are 7-1 today and hadden had a good game and scored a bucket. the kid he was guarding today was at least a foot taller than him so that was a challenge. we won the game 28-16

December - Christmas

Some highlights:
Hadden - electric scooter (his comment - for 13 years and up), DS games, an MP3 player, lego set, bay blades (round spinning tops that battle)
Spencer - a nintendo DS, cungzoo pets, bay blades (round spinning tops that battle) and a bunch of bade blades
a few board games and toher toys --- a months ago Hadden came home from school and told us that some of his friends have a game night... so the last few months that we have been in town friday night has turned into "Pizza Night, Movie Night" and Sunday has turned into game night (nintendo wii to sorry sliders, to battle ship).

not sure where this game from but both the kids have gotten caught saying "pickles" or pickle juice after you say something --- there comment will be on these 2 sayings.. must of been one of there shows they watch

kids are loving there IPODS - both are singing right night as i write this. spencer enjoys drawing a lot, coloring - he is does quite a bit of this every week.

Hadden's 7-8 basketball team lost there first game - i am coaching with a friend of mine and today we were outmanned.... score of the game was 38-26 which is a lot of points at this age....our kids played hard and gave it their all...hadden had his best game of the season on defense but did not shoot the ball today.. also signed up spencer for his first season of soccer this spring.. he is very excicted that he will have his own team and that i am coaching....he has been dragged to 4 seasons of soccer, 2 baseball seasons, 2 basketball season, and an all star baseball tournments..... so he is due for a turn.......
