Nash Edward Meyer - July 8 1:55 PM

Today i am going to recap the day that Nash was born. It started with Carrie and I waking up at 3:30 or so to get to the hospital by 4:30 so that carrie could get induced.
1. 5:00 - carrie is hooked up to all the IV's and the drug to start the contractions starts.
2. 5:15 - flo and i head to mcdonalds to grab a little breakfast and coffee before the big day gets going to fast.
3. 5:45 - we are back to the hospital and carrie is doing well - laying in bed having some ice chips.
4. 6:15 - this is when the excitement begins - she gets up to use the bathroom and when she comes back the nurse plug her back in and we can tell something is not right.
5. 6:16 - 6:20 or so ---nurse is moving carrie to side to side and calls in 2nd nurse and the dr. they are in there quick. the dr then calls and says get the ER ready for an emergency C- section. it has gone from 1 nurse to 8 or so folks in the room and i am scared and not sure what is going on.
6. 6:25 - the baby's heart had decelearted so they back off the potosum (contaction Medicine - from 6 to 0) - carrie and the baby are doing okay. The Dr and Nurse say to be prepared for all day birth.
7. 6:30 - 9:30 - i do lots of walking, carrie sister Ashley arrives. things are progressing slowly - she is back on the contraction medecine. nothing is happening quickly.
8. 10:30 0r so - go to break the water and the baby has moved up to high -- to dangerous to break the water. the waiting game continues. Carrie is doing well. The baby likes it when she is on her left side in the bed - when she moves to her right side the baby's heart rate falls. she stays on her left side the rest of the labor.
9. 11:00 - grab jason's deli for lunch with 5 guys fries for a side.
10. 12:00 or so - they nurse comes into check carrie and says you are dialated to a 6 but " uh... i think i feel the baby's hand on his head" i had not heard this from the other 2 times carrie gave birth. the nervous part of me says this cannot be good.
11. 12:30 or so - the Dr comes in and says there are 3 options. because the baby's hand is on the head if they break the water the hand could fall out and an emergency C-section would need to occur, two - the hand is moved and everything proceeds as normal, 3 - we wait --- at this point i turn white as a sheet and need to walk so i proceed to the hallway to walk while the water is being broke. Needless to say it is extemely good news that i never decided to major in medecine as i do not have what it takes to be in the hospital very much.
12. 12:35 - the water breaks - everything is good.
13. 12:35 - 1:30 - carrie is having lots of contractions - big ones. she is comfortable but starting to feels some pressure.
14. 1:40 - she calls the nurse - she is now dialated to 10 - Nash is ready to come.
15. 1:50 - 1:52 - she starts pushing - i can sense from the dr's a sense of urgency.... they are not letting her have any breaks between pushes.
16. 1:55 - the 3rd of 4th big push and Nash is hear. He had is hand between the cord and his neck and the cord was wrapped around his neck. the dr indicated we had a min or 2 more before a C-section would have happened.

Nash- right at 9 hours of labor and daddy was a nervous wreck but it was so great to see how great carrie did. She did great and Nash was healthy baby boy. 7 lbs, 15 oucnes - 19.5 inches long and all the tests came out great. He passed his hearing test on Saturday morning.

Our friend Sarah was the nurse on the baby floor both Friday and Saturday night so she helped take care of Nash which was great. We left the hospital by 11:00 on Sunday July 10 to come home. Hadden and spencer stayed with Carries parents - they came to visit there brother on friday and held him and gave him hugs / kisses before heading to Carrie's parents. they had a great time there hunting and playing outside, going to the creek to swim running around.
